As the market leader in technology and enabled care across Europe, Careium is currently providing its services to around 400,000 people. Working with both public and private sector clients, Careium offers a full range of telecare support from mobile response, to out of hours, and installation from highly skilled technicians. The goal? To provide Careium users with a safer, active and more meaningful everyday life.

Four response centres are located across Sweden, Norway and the UK with the latter receiving 25,000 incoming alarms every day. In the UK, Careium was established in 1987 and in that time, a number of complementary businesses have been acquired to enable Careium’s services to benefit a wider audience.

CG were approached in April 2023 when the business was looking to simplify its UK legal entity structure, to collapse three trading companies and one holding company down to just one entity. The brand name remained as Careium UK, however trading through three separate legal entities meant there was an opportunity to streamline efforts and reduce the administrative costs of running multiple legal entities.

Although Careium had previously attempted to address the challenge, seeking support from other organisations in 2022, costs were deemed to be too expensive. But, after Andy Haslam’s appointment as UK Finance Director in October 2022, he put the project back on the table.

Andy said: “CG were appointed to provide legal support to the rationalisation of our UK group, liaising with both the tax advisors and the company to work out the most practical solution and then prepare the necessary legal documentation to be able enable this simplification to be completed to agreed deadlines.”

Despite some late challenges from the tax advisors, CG’s work on the project saw Careium hit the revised deadline of 30 June 2023. Establishing a good working relationship early on was key to the success of the partnership within a short time frame.

Andy added: “I liked the collaborative approach taken by Jennifer Gallagher, who used a combination of emails & teams calls to ensure she fully understood our needs & then provided updates as necessary.

“There was also a really pragmatic approach taken to ensure we met the deadlines needed. This was picked up by the tax advisors, RSM, who noted the commercial and pragmatic approach being taken which helped the process.”

Andy said: “I would most definitely recommend CG and have already extended our involvement with them across Commercial and HR legal support.

“Where we’ve needed help on other aspects of law, CG take a good holistic approach to our overall account and have offered their services to drive further improvements into our business at a cost-effective solution.
