Get to know the CG team
James is a Senior Associate, having joined the Litigation team at CG in February 2025. James has spent his entire career as a commercial litigator. He has a wide pool of experience, including: commercial contract disputes; shareholder and partnership disputes; professional negligence claims; enforcement of restrictive covenants; and defamation and brand protection claims.
James’ experience also includes strategic input in niche types of litigation, such as security for costs applications, and dealing with matters from County Court to Court of Appeal level.
James has been able to competently deal with large-scale disclosure exercises through use of technology. This includes developing skills in using the Relativity platform and other e-disclosure providers, as well as using artificial intelligence methods of reviewing and searching through documents (such as Generative AI or technology assisted review). James excels at developing strategies to guide clients through the process in complex cases with multiple issues and sources of documents.
James has a vast experience of considering tactics and methods of compromising claims outside of proceedings. HavING undertaken multiple successful mediations, he can recommend strategies to clients to get the best out of alternative dispute resolution. James can consider the commerciality of the options available to client, including detailed consideration of the potential costs, risk and reward for the client.
James joined CG from national firm Weightmans in the Liverpool office, where he worked for 6 years. Prior to this, James worked at Aaron & Partners LLP in Chester, where he undertook his training contract. James undertook the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Chester, where he achieved a distinction, and studied law at degree level at the University of Exeter.
